Messenger push notifications disabled but still working

    I have a Samsung GT-I9301I with Android 4.4.2.
    After unchecking 'Show notifications' of Messenger (230.0.0.12.117 version) from Application manager, I still continue receiving push notifications when a Facebook contact writes me.

    Perhaps, it's because Android version is too old? I can't update it though: it says that I already have the latest version available for my phone.
